Copper crafts maintenance methods

① Silver oxide method. With silver oxide and cuprous oxide contact, closed cuprous chloride exposed surface, to control the corrosion of copper products. First, use mechanical method to remove the powdery rust and expose the gray wax cuprous chloride. Then the silver oxide and alcohol into a paste, coated on the surface of cuprous chloride, and placed in a humid environment, so that its full effect, the formation of cuprous oxide and cupric chloride, covering the surface of cuprous chloride. Both are stable salts, so many operations, until the device is placed in a high humidity environment, there is still no powdery rust corrosion point. This method is suitable for spot-like local corrosion of objects and objects with metal inlays.

② Benzotriazole method. Benzotriazole is a heterocyclic compound, which can form a stable complex with copper and its salts, and generate an insoluble and quite firm transparent protective film on the surface of the copper alloy, so that the copper art disease is inhibited and stabilized, and the erosion of water vapor and air pollutants is prevented. With distilled water and toluene, acetone and other organic solvents, remove the surface of the copper art of soil oil, and then immersed in benzotriazole alcohol solvent penetration, you can form a complex protective film. However, benzotriazole is susceptible to thermal sublimation and loses its protective effect. Therefore, a layer of polymer material should be coated on the surface of copper art products to make sealing film.

③ lye immersion method. The corroded copper art product is soaked in the sodium sesquicarbonate solution, so that the copper chloride is gradually converted into a stable copper carbonate, and the chloride ions of the copper art product are replaced and transferred into the immersion solution. The immersion liquid needs to be replaced regularly until no chloride ions appear in the immersion liquid. Subsequently, the utensils were washed repeatedly with distilled water to remove the lye and sealed after drying. The alkali solution only extracts the chloride, retains the colorful malachite and other corrosion layers, and does not damage the original appearance of copper art products. The disadvantage of this method is that the replacement reaction time is long. In addition, chloride is not only attached to the surface of the rust layer, but also has penetrated into the deep part of the corrosive crust of the utensils, which is difficult to replace completely.
